Pastel Dreams
I’ve always loved to paint and draw but I’m far from being an artist. I think I just love being able to create things with my hands. Whether it’s stringing together a bracelet, sewing a pillow, or creating a cake, the construction is what I love the most, the outcome is just a bonus.
These cakes – particularly the watercolor one – challenged me to pull out those painting skills I learned in waaay back in high school alongside my art teacher, the beloved Mr. Riner (if you know, you know).
The smaller pastel pink beauty is a vanilla smash cake for a little girl’s first birthday party. The layers I use for smash cakes are so light and fluffy and make for wonderful photos.
It’s topped with homemade pink and white meringue rosette pops and kisses and a velvety white chocolate drip.
The watercolor cake is a four layer strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream. The cake layers are made from a fresh strawberry purée and have a beautiful, vibrant berry colored tint. The cake was hand painted using pastel food coloring and gold luster lust.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’ve had these cakes scheduled for this weekend since August, as I know my Mimi would’ve loved them. 💜
Enjoy!
