A Toy Story Birthday

I met Kayla when I was a green 17 year old working for an extended day program in the city where I group up. She was a few years older than me but we quickly became friends. We spent time at her house playing games, laughing about dogs, and just enjoying life. I graduated and moved off to college, but we kept in touch.

(Here we are circa 2012. A moment of silence for the over-filtered Instagram trend.)

And I’m so glad we did.

Now here we are, almost 10 years later with little girls of our own to play games and make jokes with.

This cake was for Kayla’s daughter who just turned the big ONE. Kayla’s daughter, let’s call her B for privacy’s sake, wanted a Toy Story cake and was adamant on having Woody be in the spotlight. So, B got just that!

Woody is on top of a four-layer chocolate cake wrapped in sky blue buttercream. Of course we had to play off of the Toy Story theme, so I added some piped buttercream clouds and a custom number candle.

The logo is made out of fondant as I knew I wouldn’t be able to get as sharp of a resolution by doing a buttercream transfer. Buttercream transfers work great for a multitude of things, but I’ve found that logos look best when they’re made out of fondant.

So, there you have it friends. A first birthday cake fit for a Princess B.

Enjoy!
