Going Grey

Perhaps the complete opposite of a traditional wedding cake, “Going Grey” is a nod to all things untraditional (and is an absolute showstopper.).

Bounces of light provided by pastel florals and soft trances of grey drapery balance out the color palette while keeping the cake sleek and elegant.

Reaching into my bag of artistry once more, I learned to make sugar flowers for this cake (major props to the decorators who do this for every cake - truly an art form with a steep learning curve).

The reflexed flowers expose the beauty of what can sometimes be hidden underneath all the petals. A few of the flowers are silk, while the others are sugar flowers - can you tell them apart?

The swag of fabric is a new trend - one which I am incredibly fond of - and provides an additional dimension to the cake.

Three tiers make this cake large enough for a crowd, but small enough to remain incredibly intimate.

“Going Grey” is the second cake that made its debut this past weekend at the lovely Pickett on Court located in Florence, Alabama.

Enjoy!
