Apple Crisp Cake
It’s September. The last few mornings have had such a nice breeze to them. I can feel the colder weather coming and I’m so dang excited about it!
THE CAKE
This Apple Crisp cake is front and center for me this morning. It took seven (yes, seven) hours to make.
The actual assembly only took about an hour, but the baking of the layers, filling, and frostings took much longer.
THE ELEMENTS
Let’s break it down:
Spiced apple cider cake layers
Homemade apple pie filling made from Granny Smith apples (from our very own apple trees!)
Shortbread frosting
Streusel filling
Vanilla bean buttercream
DID YOU READ THAT? Apple. Cider. Cake. Layers. Those same cake layers were then brushed with the baked apple juice from the apple pie filling. 🤤
FRESH FRUIT
All of the apples and apple elements in this cake came from the apple trees that are less than 30 yards from my front door. There’s just something about knowing where your food comes from that makes even better.
I’m ready to put up my Christmas tree now.
Enjoy!
